- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the $4.2 million redevelopment project of the 200-year-old Sreenathji (Sri Krishna) temple in Manama, Bahrain’s capital. PM Narendra Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Bahrain.
- The Sri Krishna temple is estimated to have been established around 1817 and was built by Thathai Bhatia Hindu community. It is considered to be one of the oldest temple in the Gulf countries.
- The redevelopment project will be on a piece of land measuring 16,500 square feet. As part of the renovated structure, the temple will have a knowledge centre and a museum.
- It will also have special facility to host Hindu weddings. This comes to light after the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority initiated to make the Bahrain a hub for wedding destination and boost tourism.
