Prime Minister Narendra
Modi on Sunday launched the $4.2 million redevelopment project of the
200-year-old Sreenathji (Sri Krishna) temple in Manama, Bahrain’s capital.
PM Narendra Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Bahrain.
The Sri Krishna temple is
estimated to have been established around 1817 and was built by Thathai
Bhatia Hindu community. It is considered to be one of the oldest temple in
the Gulf countries.
The redevelopment project
will be on a piece of land measuring 16,500 square feet. As part of the
renovated structure, the temple will have a knowledge centre and a museum.
It will also have special
facility to host Hindu weddings. This comes to light after the Bahrain
Tourism and Exhibition Authority initiated to make the Bahrain a hub for
wedding destination and boost tourism.
