- Thailand and United States has recently hosted the opening ceremony for the 38th Cobra Gold military exercise in Thailand. The Cobra Gold is the largest annual Asia-Pacific military exercise. It was first held in 1982.
- The aim of the exercise is to improve coordination and inter-operability between USA, Thailand and other participating nations in both hostile military and humanitarian efforts.
- The exercise have three distinct activities- a) Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise (CALFEX), b) Command Post Exercise (CPX) and c) activity related to assisting the local Thai population.
- The active participants in the exercise include USA, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea. China and India participate in civic-action parts of the exercise.
