Asian military forces hold annual ‘Cobra Gold’ exercise

  1. Thailand and United States has recently hosted the opening ceremony for the 38th Cobra Gold military exercise in Thailand. The Cobra Gold is the largest annual Asia-Pacific military exercise. It was first held in 1982.
  2. The aim of the exercise is to improve coordination and inter-operability between USA, Thailand and other participating nations in both hostile military and humanitarian efforts.
  3. The exercise have three distinct activities- a) Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise (CALFEX), b) Command Post Exercise (CPX) and c) activity related to assisting the local Thai population.
  4. The active participants in the exercise include USA, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea. China and India participate in civic-action parts of the exercise.
